Building a Website

Although I have created websites before, I have never used the Wix platform before. After signing up with my email address and creating a password I looked at various templates. I chose one which seemed suitable for showing off illustrations and drawings, as well as photographic and video work.

The first thing I did was to change the text on the headings. I personalised the text so that it was MY name. Another change to the headings I made was altering 'photography' to 'gallery' etc. Of course, I also chose different fonts for the lettering. For example, I wanted a simple sans-serif font for the main heading. Something less fancy and more modern looking than the default font on the original template.

Then I began to clear the template site pages of the images already uploaded, replacing them with my own work. I used the 'add' icon on the left and chose add either 'Image' or 'Text'. See screen shot below.

Using the cursor (pointing hand) I had to resize the images and place them carefully. I found using the rulers (these are found on the tools pull-down menu) very useful. Please see the screen-grab below.

Finally I pasted some new text on the 'biography' page and hit the preview button.

So far, I have found Wix to be very easy to use, though it takes time and patience. Overt the coming weeks I will experiment with different designs and page content. The first result is available at: https://marksmith886.wixsite.com/mysite.
