FURTHER RESEARCH ON WEBSITE DESIGN: MOVING IMAGE AND ARCHITECTURE
Having chatted with Carrie about adapting my initial idea for the Final Major Project (from digital art to architectural film) I decided to re-visit the 'look' of the Wix website. I had my own immediate list of film-makers whose work grabbed my interest in the past (e.g. Nolan's Inception) so I decided to find a relevant website, one that dealt primarily with architectural news and issues. The most prominent website I found was Archdaily, but I found the page design far too busy and cluttered. See Figure 1.
Then I looked at websites specialising in moving image. The obvious starting place was YouTube (Figure 2). Again, I found the design overly busy. I want visitors to my Wix pages to be able to focus on my presentations, so I'd prefer a simpler design.
Finally, I looked at websites made by artists and independent directors who have made films connected to architecture. The most interesting (and pertinent to my design intentions) was that of John Smith, whose work I have admired for many years. His website design is both minimal and unusual. See Figure 3. I shall endeavour to use Smith's website design to inform my subsequent Wix website design.
