FINAL MAJOR PROJECT: ADAPTATION AFTER TUTORIAL

After meeting with Carrie and discussing my proposed project, I decided to move on from the idea of an online educational resource. I suggested another idea that I had thought of: a film about the architecture of the DMU campus. Many years ago I worked as a lighting camera person on a film by an architect and I have remained interested in this genre ever since.

I searched online for images of films that I had seen that might be included within the genre of architectural film' (yes, this genre does exist!) and came up with the following list of eight films that had lodged firmly in my memory:

1) Blade Runner (Scott, 1982)

2) Metropolis (Lang, 1927)

3)The Girl Chewing Gum (Smith, 1976)

4) Inception (Nolan, 2010)

5) Brazil (Gilliam, 1985)

6) Koyaanisqatsi (Reggio, 1982)

7) The Black Tower (Smith, 2013)

8) Manufactured Landscapes (Baichwal, 2006)

I shall use these films as a starting point. Theyt provide useful references, which may come  in handy when discussing the project with folk interested in architecture and film. In particular, I am big fan of John Smith's work. His The Girl Chewing Gum (1976) still makes me laugh out loud!

As the project is now entirely moving image based, I will have to re-examine my choice of Wix template. However, the concept of using imagery as a form of critical dialogue about digital art forms would seem to remain valid. The principle change in terms of using the Wix website would seem to be one of simplification. Rather that than having to make the design more complex!
